Seoul Leads Bookings as Tourism Surges

Seoul has emerged as the world's most-booked city for November travel in Amadeus's latest hospitality report, reinforcing South Korea's position as one of Asia's fastest-growing international tourism markets.
The travel technology company places Seoul ahead of New York and London in its global booking rankings, although Tokyo leads searches. The figures measure activity within Amadeus's reporting systems rather than every flight reservation worldwide. Its forward-looking hotel data put Seoul occupancy on the books at approximately 63% for November, with the city's accommodation market tracking ahead of the previous two years.
South Korea's broader tourism figures support the picture of rising demand. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recorded 17.11 million foreign arrivals between January and September, up 21.5% year on year. Visitor spending on cards for tourism-related services increased 46.8% to 15.845 trillion won. Arrivals from China reached 5.47 million, while Japan supplied 3.12 million travellers. By late October, provisional figures indicated the country had surpassed its previous annual arrival record.
The expansion reflects growing international exposure to Korean culture, additional flight connections and policies intended to simplify travel. Yet tourism officials are also seeking to spread visitor spending beyond the capital, with arrivals through regional airports and ports increasing. Seoul's lead in booking rankings therefore tells only part of the story. The next challenge is sustaining demand while allowing other destinations to share the economic benefits of South Korea's growing popularity.
