Expedia Raises Outlook Amid Travel Uncertainty image

Travellers are still booking holidays and international journeys despite mounting geopolitical disruption. Expedia has raised its full-year gross bookings forecast, reflecting stronger demand across parts of its global business.

The online travel company now expects bookings of $131.4 billion to $131.9 billion, above its previous guidance. Third-quarter revenue increased by around 12% to $4.94 billion, and its adjusted earnings exceeded analysts’ estimates.

Yet the company’s fourth-quarter revenue forecast was more cautious than investors had hoped. Management cited travel disruptions associated with unrest in Europe and the Middle East, alongside the effect of US midterm elections on some travel patterns. Strong annual demand therefore coexists with a less predictable near-term outlook.

Expedia’s figures highlight the uneven resilience of the tourism industry. Travellers with greater spending power continue to support bookings, while changing routes, higher fares and regional instability can quickly affect where and when demand materialises.
